Rape Crisis Center

Statewide Sexual Assault Crisis Hotline: 1-877-432-5368
Local Sexual Assault Crisis Hotline: 501-801-2700

If you are a survivor of sexual assault, you are not alone. Each individual reacts differently. Many people commonly have experienced the following thoughts and questions:

  • I can't believe this happened to me.
  • My feelings are distressing. I am terrified.
  • My mind is filled with questions.
  • I don't think I could ever tell.
  • What will happen to me physically?
  • What about legal concerns?
  • Shouldn't I be over this by now?
  • I was assaulted weeks ago. Why am I feeling so devastated now?
  • I think I just might make it.

Every person who has suffered the violation of sexual assault needs to hear a message of hope, hope that he or she can be a survivor with the courage to heal. The Rape Crisis Center exists to serve survivors of sexual assault, as well as their non-offending family members, through compassionate crisis intervention and continuing support. Rape Crisis Center crisis intervention advocates are volunteers who participate in a 30-hour training program which equips them to provide the kind of emotional support and intervention that can help alleviate the trauma of sexual assault in the lives of survivors.

Our crisis intervention advocates serve sexual assault survivors in Pulaski, Prairie, Lonoke, Saline, and Faulkner counties. Through their commitment and compassion, we are able to provide hospital emergency room crisis intervention, and 24-hour, toll-free crisis line support. Working with hospitals, local law enforcement agencies, and judicial systems in nine counties, Rape Crisis also provides educational printed materials, presentations to community organizations, and training opportunities for persons who serve survivors of sexual assault, as well as training for law enforcement.

An important component of our intervention is providing individual counseling and support groups. Counselors experienced in working with sexual assault survivors facilitate our support groups which are designed to meet various needs. The following groups are available as needed:

  • Adult Female Rape Survivors.
  • Adolescent Female Rape Survivors.
  • Adult Male Rape Survivors.
  • Secondary Survivors (friends, family, and loved ones).
  • Adolescent Male Rape Survivors.
  • Survivor Skills.
  • Senior Adult Female Rape Survivors.
  • Adult Female Survivors of Child Sexual Abuse.
  • Adult Male Survivors of Child Sexual Abuse.
  • Gay Rape Survivors.
  • Lesbian Rape Survivors.

Sexual assault is a violent crime that holds the power to devastate individuals, families, and communities. Both men and women can be sexually assaulted . . . adults, very young children, adolescents, even elderly persons are sexually assaulted in our communities.

Rape Crisis staff persons are pro-active catalysts in helping create a safe and healthy community, an environment in which every person may live without the fear of sexual violence.
